Phase I of the Lutheran Brethren Church in Cameroon (EFLC) Hospital

Garoua, Cameroon

ground floor plan - outpatient / rch departments (not to scale)

The Lutheran Brethren Church in Cameroon (EFLC) has planned an 80 Bed Hospital plus 4 Staff Houses which is expected to be completed in at least 3 phases. Therefore, this request for funding assistance is only for Phase I, which includes the Out-Patient Department, Administration Building and one Staff House. The site is already owned by the EFLC as part of their contribution to the project. The new hospital is planned to be a Referral Hospital for EFLC’s Medical Services which include a small 20 Bed Hospital and 4 Health Centers.

While Phase I will not have any bed capacity, it will include a fully-functional Out-Patient Department, as well as a Reproductive Child Health Department. These services are front line of all preventative medical services in Africa. In later phases, the dream is to add bed capacity and to serve as a Referral Hospital.

The EFLC serves in an area of Cameroon that is having challenges presently, as it is located next to the border with Nigeria, where the Book Haram are most active. Despite these concerns, the indigenous Bishop of the Lutheran Brethren Church, as will as the Medical Director and his Staff are very committed to serve in this area of Cameroon. Through this project, the overwhelming need for more and better medical facilities will be met and the people of a neglected area of the world will be served.
